How do I store my mattress?

There are many situations where you may wish to store your mattress, so it is important to know the right way to store it. You may be moving house or going for an extended holiday, whatever the case may be we have got you covered. We will give you the best tips for safely storing your mattress in a way that will maintain its longevity.

The first thing to note is that you are not able to put the mattress back in the box. We use a special roll-packing machine in our warehouse that helps us condense the mattress to make it suitable for delivery. Because of this once the mattress has been opened and used, you will no longer be able to compress it into the box it was delivered in.

Tips for storing the mattress

We have a guide for storing the mattress that goes into more detail, but these are just some quick tips to help guide you through the process:

Clean your mattress first before storing it

To keep your mattress in good condition while it is stored, you should vacuum any debris from the surface. For any stains or moisture, you should spot-clean the area and thoroughly dry it (with a cold hairdryer or fan) to prevent any moisture from getting trapped in the material.

Make sure you use a breathable protective mattress cover

To ensure your mattress's longevity, you should invest in a breathable fabric cover to protect your mattress while allowing breathability. We advise avoiding any plastic covers that can trap moisture (unless you are only storing it for a few days while moving homes). There are a few good options to choose from but our recommendation would be purchasing a Mattibag.

Recommended to keep it flat when it is stored

The mattress should be stored flat to avoid any deformation in its shape. The Latex Mattress cannot be stored upright due to its flexibility. For moving purposes, the Hybrid Mattress can be stored on its side if necessary because of the internal springs. However, we do not recommend storing it in this position for longer than 1-2 months (This duration minimizes the risk of deformation and damage to the internal springs and foam layers).

Choose the right location

Try to have the mattress stored in a cool and dry area (avoid any places that can be quite humid). The temperature and humidity levels of the place you choose to store the mattress should remain consistent. It should also have good ventilation to prevent any build-up of moisture.

Avoid heavy items on top

Avoid placing any heavy objects on top of the mattress while it is in storage. This can cause permanent indentations to the mattress and damage the latex material. Try to ensure that the mattress is upright (only for the Hybrid) and flat, away from any heavy objects that can cause these issues.
