The latex mattress will usually take around 4-6 weeks to fully decompress once it has been removed from the box and set up for sleeping. In the process of compression, the volume of the mattress is reduced to fit within the box used for delivery. Once the mattress is opened and laid out, it will begin to return to its original shape, but it can take some time.
The percentage of the mattress that decompresses in the first 24 hours is approximately 85% (however this can vary). You may notice that some areas have not fully decompressed during this time, but please allow the mattress the time to return to shape.
As you use the mattress it will naturally expand out to its full shape which is why we have a 30-day waiting period before looking into warranty claims. This time is necessary to allow the mattress to fully decompress and restore its shape in most situations (the corners are usually the last area to decompress).
While this does take some time, there are some things that you can do to help with the decompression of the mattress. In particular, there are 2 methods that you can follow that will help your mattress in the decompression process:
-
Shake each corner of the mattress, but please make sure to do this without hurting your back (maintaining good body posture when supporting the weight).
-
Rotate the mattress as this again helps with decompression. We recommend rotating the mattress once a month for the first 6 months, then every 2 months after that point (helps extend the lifetime of the mattress)
It is also important to be aware that there can be some subtle size variations (between 2-3cm) in the mattress. This is normal for handmade products like our mattresses. If you observe any differences beyond these slight size changes, please get in touch with us after 30-40 days (to allow adequate time for decompression).
